Osteoarthritis affects about a third of the population, over the age of 45, in the UK and is thought to result from damage to the joints. Over time this can result in pain and stiffness.
June is the National Osteoarthritis Month and we thought you might like a little more information on top tips to help:
- Osteopathy/Physical therapy can help by improving muscle tone and articulating or moving the joints to help reduce pain. We are trained to give appropriate advice.
- Although this is a problem that is caused by wear and tear it is important to keep exercising and moving about. Exercise can strengthen the muscles that support the joints and help reduce pain.
- It is important you try and keep to a healthy weight. For every pound that you are above a healthy weight, an extra 4 or 5 pounds of weight goes through your hips knees and feet and this can increase the pain.
- Keep to a healthy diet.
